DIY CONCRETE TABLE

This weeks project was this table. Our Melltorp table from Ikea started look bad and it needed a new board, so we desided to do new board by using concrete. I think it looks just great. All that rough concrete on top and simple white legs under. Now we are just thinking how to seal the surface, because here in Finland they just dont know what to put on top of that condrete. Now we painted some dim varnish there and I just hope it will stay and protect the coating of our table. Any tips are welcome:)

  1. Hieno tuli! Operoitiin samanmoinen kesällä mustiin rautajalkoihin ja samoten käsiteltiin pinta himmeällä kalustelakalla. Hyvin on palvellut.

We have concrete floors in our loft. They were sealed with a clear coat for concrete, but I don't think enough coats were put on so every time something spills (especially if it is oily) it seeps in. So you will want to make sure that your table top is really sealed. Also, you can buff it out and re-seal it over time.

  11. Hyvältä näyttää pöytä :)

Betonipintaa voi suojata esimerkiksi Litium silikaatti-käsittelyllä (laitettu lattiaan) tai sitten Supi-saunasuojalla (meillä menossa seiniin).

Litium silikaatista löytyy myös joku hieno nano-versio, josta kaveri kertoi punaviinitahran lähteneen seuraavana päivänäkin jälkiä jättämättä. http://www.pentra.fi/index.php?node_id=15494

Eksyin tänne ihan sattumalta ja on ihan pakko kysyä, mistä on tuo IHANA kattovalaisin, joka näkyy ylimmässä kuvassa? Pakko saada tuollainen :)

Pöytäkin on aika ihana. Onko kovinkin painava tuo betonilevy?

  24. Hi, yesterday I came across an article in one of my interior magazines where a couple used only natural materials in their house (e.g. black tea for wood-stain). They sealed their concrete table with olive oil... I think this will change the color but maybe it's worth a try

Thanks a lot for your answer! No, they do not have it anymore, and I saw it in so many blogs and just love it!!!

But I do not find it used, because I lack the name...

Thanks and I love your blog a lot!!

  27. Love your blog! We had raw concrete floors in our old office, they were sealed with clear/transparent paint. It makes them a little darker and a bit shiny, but the effect is really nice :)

  35. hello from Portland, Oregon! Can you please tell me what you used to seal the surface? I just recently put DIY cement countertops into my kitchen but am also having an issue with finding the right property to seal the surface. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. We had the same issue and that surface that we have is not the right one to do it as it wont last in a counter top. I think you should try goole. I can´t remember the name of the sealing product but there were some. They just did not sell it in Finland. Try DIY countertop sealing from google and you tube.

    2. They sell concrete sealers at Home Depot or I would imagine at other stores like Home Depot.
